Tsuri Komi Ashi

Incorporating:

Harai-tsuri-komi-ashi &
Sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi

Harai-tsuri-komi-ashi - Sweeping Lift(with Fishing Grip)-Pull Ankle
Sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi - Propping Lift(with Fishing Grip)-Pull/Drawing Ankle
Tsuri-komi-ashi - Fishing-Pull Ankle

Bred from the same technique, both Harai-tsuri-komi-ashi and Sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi attack the ankle. However, due to direction, the technique is named differently. Due to this technique being named all three names, I will address them together, unlike the other waza in these pages.

The 'tsuri-komi' part of this technique refers to the tsurite grip lifting your uki, as the 'ashi' part refers to the step of the uke being attacked with the tori's foot (opposite side to the tsurite). Now the techniques independently:

Harai-tsuri-komi-ashi

Harai-tsuri-komi-ashi drives through the uke - uke moving backwards. As the uke steps backwards, tori's foot sweeps the uke's leg further and backwards.

Sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi

With Sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi the uke is moving forwards - the throw ending up like a low Hiza-guruma. As uke steps forwards the tori blocks the ankle whilst making the same tsuri-komi movement. The uke can draw the uke on to this foot, creating the 'drawing' interpretation of the technique.

Sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi can also be performed with the tori's foot staying on uke's foot for a 'propping' interpretation.
