Ura-nage (Uranage, Mae-uranage, Mae-ura-nage) - (Forward) Rear Throw
Ura-nage, as seen in the nage-no-kata, is a huge throw. Simply, stepping to the side, tori places one hand on the stomach of uke, one hand on the back.
Lifting into the air, tori starts to throw themselves as they literally launch uke into the air and to the back of tori.
Other versions of this throw include Mae-hiza-ura-nage (Mae-hiza-uranage) - use of the knee to assist the lift, or with ukes back turned as seen in Ushiro-ura-nage (Ushiro-uranage), and again with the knee Ushiro-hiza-ura-nage (Ushiro-hiza-ura-nage). |
