(Hon) Kesa Gatame

Kesa-gatame - Scarf Hold
Hon-kesa-gatame
Also known as 'Hon Kesa Gatame', Hon meaning true. This is to distinguish between Kuzure-kesa-gatame and Gyaku/Ushiro-Kesa-Gatame. However, the Kodakan do not accept this, so I prefer to refer to this technique without the 'Hon'.

1.To perform the technique, sit next to your partners side and place the arm nearest to their head underneath their arm, like a scarf (the 'scarf' is also referred to as the lapel around the neck. Then tightly hold their arm nearest to you underneath your armpit.
