Katame-no-Kata

The katame-no-kata (form of locking techniques) is second only to nage-no-kata on it's width of practice. Created by Jigaro Kano, this kata contains 15 ground work techniques. These techniques are then split into three sets or categories - osae-komi-waza (holding techniques), shime-waza (strangulation or choking techniques) and kansetsu-waza (locking techniques). The videos for each of these sets are below as teaching videos from the Kodokan.

1st Set - Osaekomi Waza

It is worth noting that in the UK the kesa-gatame that is demonstrated here would be considered as kuzure-kesa-gatame - so for the UK audience (at least) and this would often be altered to what would be considered by some as hon-kesa-gatame. However, the BJA syllabus shows Kuzure-kesa-gatame. Either is fine.
