For Kano's and Juniors, it can be frustrating only being graded once every 3-4 months. Also, age can be restrictive. Therefore, the badge scheme was created. The badges are designed for all martial arts by Merit Badge International.

The idea was lifted from scouts and also some Karate schools who have found this to be a great learning process. Juniors love collecting the badges, and it seems they continually want to get more. Clubs involved will have a sheet for each of these badge awards available on each training night.

Below is a table of all of our badges - and what each badge is for. Eventually, each technique will have a page dedicated to it and hyperlinked.

The award scheme is not in anyway attached to the syllabi in any association, and is not governed as such. This scheme is meant to be encouragment and to assist usual gradings and promotions.

New Update!
To help promote the practice of Kata within the Akitas Clubs and to improve the attendence at badge days of higher grades, All Kata badges, the Renraku, Rensoku, Kokusai Shiai and Kaeshi Waza badges are now exempt from the need to achieve the Breakfall badges, and can be attempted as a third badge.

This update of 'Elite' Badges (shown in the list with '**') has included some minor amendments and some new additions.
Attention! Coach's from other clubs!

We would be happy to work with you, and can offer advice from years of experience if you would like to incorporate this system with your own clubs. Please contact Adam (07753) 820439 at sensei@akitasjudo.com before starting. We have spent years developing this scheme and would like to know of all other clubs working this system, and are keen to build relationships for award days, competitions etc.

Please do not start any system without contacting us first.
